Further to the activities already mentioned in beach life and safaris of :- hunting, fishing, shooting, swimming, surfing, water skiing, scuba diving, horse riding, canoeing, hiking, wind surfing and sailing; Port Alfred also offers excellent 18 hole golf at both the Royal Alfred Links and the Gary Player Fish River Sun Casino. Clubs and golf cars are available for hire. There are thriving tennis, bowls, squash, rugby, football, cricket, shooting, rowing, power and ski boat clubs all that readily welcome visitors of all standards. A variety of English style local bars ( saloon or public ) and hotels offer pool, snooker and darts facilities plus ample opportunity to exercise the right arm at very sensible prices. Finally the world famous 43 air school is located at Port Alfred should you wish to achieve a pilots license. It was started in 1943 to train world war II fighter pilots and is still regarded as one of the worlds best flying schools.
