The South African Experience - promoting trade and tourism for South Africa

Beach Life

A complete selection of beach types exist from wild rocks to silver sand, sheltered or exposed, riverine or seaside to suit all types of swimming or sunbathing. In particular there is a sheltered salt water lagoon called kiddies beach set aside for the safe swimming and playing of children. At the sea front cafe there is a skateboard practice area for the sharpening up of surfing manoeuvres. Wind surfers, pedaloes, speedboats, canoes, paddle skis, surfboards and water skis are all available. There is an N.A.U.I. registered scuba diving school with some excellent reef diving just offshore. You can take a horse or 4 x 4 and explore miles of unspoilt empty shoreline with wild surf backed by virgin coastal forest. Towering sand dunes more reminiscent of the Sahara Desert than a beach can be climbed and explored or used for dune boarding. The beaches provide excellent rock and surf fishing. Crabs mussels oysters and many other marine delicacies can be gathered to supplement a late breakfast or evening braii (barbecue). An excellent life boat service patrols both river and sea plus in high season and school holidays life guards patrol the beach.
