'Kalimba' thumbpianos are made from Kiaat, the resonant indigenous timber also chosen by traditional southern African makers of musical instruments. Recently A.M.I. has introduced some of the attractive African hardwoods from the Knysna forest for the 'Celeste Kalimba' thumbpiano. The 'Kalimba' thumbpianos are the firm's main export line. In addition we also export: - African drums in three sizes modelled on those used in the northern parts of South Africa and in Zimbabwe. These are tough, small drums (up to knee high) with specially prepared cow hide heads which can be played with hand or stick. - 'Log' Xylophones modelled on those found in many
parts of Africa:
